Even if you like watching streaming video online, you really don’t need anything faster than 2.0 GHz. The other concern is RAM memory. If a processor is like a stove top, then RAM is the number of burners you can use. Obviously, the more burners you have, the more you can cook at one time. Just like the stove, the amount of RAM you have correlates to the number of computing tasks you can do at one time. Unless you are gaming, you really don’t need very much RAM.

You also need to know about computer memory. Applications, meaning the various programs and games as well as files, such as spreadsheets, calenders, music and pictures all take up “disk space”. This number will be represented by GB, for gigabytes. The amount you need depends on the amount of files, particularly video files and games. Luckily, disk space can be added with additional drives, whether added externally or internally. The amount varies by user, so if you know about computer programs and available space, you should be fine.

Knowing about computer disk space and processors are the only two key things you need to know to purchase your computer. When you look at new copmuters, compare processing speed, RAM and disk space to make your decision and be happy with your new computer.

I just got done remodeling my kitchen to open up the space and make it a lot bigger than it was before. I’ve been thinking about purchasing my very first hot tub, so I’ve been spending some time gathering information about these products. The biggest consideration for me is where I want to put the thing. I know most people set up their home spas outdoors, but I don’t have a very big yard and my homeowners association doesn’t allow privacy fences. Since I’m leaning towards indoor hot tubs, I’m most interested in how these models are supposed to be installed. The best method is to have a separate room for the tub (usually on the first floor). The room has to be spacious enough to accommodate the unit comfortably, the floor has to be solid enough to support the filled tub along with any occupants and peripheral accessories or equipment, and there also has to be adequate ventilation in the area. Indoor hot tubs emit lots of steam that, if not removed with proper ventilation, can lead to mold or mildew problems. In addition, I have to make sure the floor in the spa room has a good drainage system to catch spills, overflow, and drips. The last thing I need is water damage!

Once indoor hot tubs are professionally installed, they’re much easier to care for than their outdoor counterparts. For instance, keeping the unit clean will be a breeze, since I don’t have to worry about falling leaves, dirt, and other debris that would naturally creep into the water if the tub were outside. Along with the looser maintenance schedule, indoor hot tubs can be used year-round without regard to poor weather conditions such as heavy rain or snow, so I’d definitely be able to get my money’s worth by installing the spa inside.

I can’t think of a better way to shake off the various stresses of life than by a daily dip in my very own home spa. Indoor hot tubs are looking more and more attractive to me as I think about all the great times I’ll have soaking under the jets. I need to get moving on this project!

We’re all accustomed to finding hand dryers in public restrooms. With all the news of pandemics and such, I appreciate that the grocers are taking these preventative steps. What’s the world coming to?

This doesn’t mean I’m going to dispense with my pretty towels in the bath and kitchen. The hair blow dryer has been around for decades now. Such a handy gadget, especially when you’re in a hurry. Here are some tips on how to use the hair blow dryer to keep your beautiful locks looking beautiful.

Most blow dryers come equipped with at least three heat settings: high, low and air. While the high setting may be tempting when you’re in a rush, it’s recommended that you use the medium or low setting. These gadgets put out enough heat to burn your face or neck on high, so think what might happen to your hair! With this amount of heat, you need to use a good hair conditioner, to help retain your natural oils, each time you shampoo.

Always towel dry your hair, before wielding the mighty hair blow dryer towards your locks. Draw a bath towel across your forehead, drawing the towel back towards the nape of your neck. Next, lightly twist the towel in a circular motion until you’ve reached the ends of your hair. Untwist the towel and remove. Brush out your hair, then use a comb for any remaining tangles. Part your hair as usual.

Now you’re ready for the hair blow dryer routine. Hold the dryer about 6” away from your scalp. Any closer means potential damage to your hair – think split ends and breakage.

Grab one section of hair at a time, pulling it away from your head and out to the side, keeping hold of the ends. Don’t try to fully dry each section. Repeat for each section, until you’ve made the rounds. Your hair should now be semi-damp.

If you set your hair in rollers, now is the time to do it.

If your hair style is ‘wash and wear’, turn your head upside down and brush thoroughly, from the roots to the ends. This helps add volume and evenly distributes any dampness remaining.

Turn your head upright and brush it out again, parting as usual. Again, use the comb as necessary.

With a crafts paintbrush, dust the cuts with a plant rooting hormone (available at any nursery) and set the leaf in the aquarium, securing the leaf to the sand medium with gravel or pebbles. Spritz the leaves with water and cover the 10 gallon aquarium with its hood. Within a few days, the leaf will sprout new plants at the site of the cuts. The kids will be observing closely. Don’t be surprised at their shouts of amazement when the new plants make their appearance. This is a magical epiphany for children and an excellent introduction into the mysteries of plant propagation.

Our third project for the 10 gallon aquarium is a natural! Fish. Here’s where you’ll need to invest a few bucks in a water filter, pump and lighting. The way the iPhone can sometimes hog tech news headlines, you’d think that there was that the AT&T cell phone business had going for it. The iPhone may be too much of a good thing for AT&T if you ask me; take the Samsung Captivate for instance. This phone, if it had come out in a world that didn’t know of an iPhone, would have people gathering around and hailing it like it was a gift from the God of cell phones. But in the world that is ruled by the iPhone, anything by company that’s not Apple can only hope to sell itself on its features, and not a godlike halo. AT&T has announced four phones running Android on its network, the Captivate being the first one. Let’s look at some of the AT&T cell phone models on offer right now that could be the next iPhone, if only people would give them a chance.

Let’s start with the Captivate from Samsung. This smartphone tries to compete with the iPhone 4’s Retina Display, with a powerful AMOLED touchscreen of its own. It’s the first phone to bring the Android vs. iPhone controversy close to home for the iPhone and it’s a terrific implementation too. The Captivate runs on AT&T’s 7.2 Mbps 3G network, it has Bluetooth 3.0, and WiFi N. It captures HD video and still images on a 5 megapixel camera, it has a GPS receiver, gyroscope, a six-axis sensor and an accelerometer. And best of all, it runs Android particularly powerfully, on its 1GHz processor.

The next Android AT&T cell phone up is the Motorola Backflip - a cleverly named flip phone to be sure. It only costs $50 on a two-year plan, abd has some pretty special features. But let’s start with the reverse flip phone design. The phone is made of a screen and a QWERTY keyboard back to back. Both the screen and the keyboard are always exposed. When you hold the phone to your ear, the rear of the phone, which is the keyboard, nestles into your hand - which is a funny feeling. The 3-inch touchscreen is nice and bright, if not AMOLED bright. When you want to use the screen and the keyboard together, you fold the screen up so that it kind of looks like a tiny laptop; and this exposes the back of the screen, that has a backtrack sensor - a touchpad (a cool idea). I love the fact that they tried something new with the design, as I am fairly tired of the standard slider/candy bar design philosophy. I’d give the Motorola pretty good marks for innovation.

The Dell Aero will be the company’s first smartphone, and it will be the lightest Android phone on AT&T. This candy bar AT&T cell phone comes with standard Android apps for YouTube, Google talk, Gmail and so on, and it will have all kinds of social networking software in-built. The processor is about half the speed of the one on the Captivate though; but hey, it comes with handwriting recognition on its touchscreen, and that should be something that helps it stand out. Dell has some more powerful smartphone models out too, like the Thunder, though you’ll probably have to find someone other than AT&T to partner with for them.

And finally, comes HTC’s smartphone, the Aria. It’s a midpriced phone that’s all touchscreen and no keyboard. It works on HTC’s Sense interface that enhances Android’s own, and it comes with GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi and access to the 7.2 M. bps 3G network on AT&T. The five-megapixel camera is pretty great, and I especially love the way it accommodates a standard 1/8 inch headphone plug. This AT&T cell phone goes for $149 with a two-year plan.

In my book, the Samsung Captivate wins the Android race on AT&T. The screen is simply to die for, and the special graphics processing makes movies a pleasure to watch.

It used to be that if you wanted to shoot video on a still camera, you would have to make do with the zoom level you started out with when he pressed Record. I love its wide-angle 28mm Leica lens, and the fact that it is absolutely life -proof. You can drop it on concrete and not even get a scratch, leave alone, a crack. Other completely competent cameras in this category include the Sony TX5, although I feel they have a problem with image quality - the edges on the images are quite smudged on this one.

But picking the right waterproof digital camera isn’t the only thing you need to think of when the wet and wild fun begins. You will need to think of the ways in which you will use your brand-new toy in the water.
